The Lovestoneites, some 200 to 300 in number, are growing closer both programmatically and in their activities to the Trotskyists and on practically every issue they attack the Party, the Soviet Union and the Comintern with similar methods and arguments as the Trotskyists. On the Soviet trials of the Trotskyist and Bukharinist wreckers, on the question of defence of the POUM, etc., the position of the Lovestoneites is almost identical with the Trotskyites. In the recent period they have also developed active disruptive work in several CIO unions. In the Automobile Workers' Union they influence Martin, the national president, and have been responsible for the organisation of periodic red-baiting campaigns against the Communists and progressives. In the Needle Trades unions, especially Local 22 of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, through the Lovestoneite Zimmerman, they occupy several leading positions which they utilise for anti-Communist activity. To a lesser extent they are working also in the Textile and Shoe unions.
