Ever since the counterrevolutionary conspiracy between Kornilov and Kerensky, the Obukhov workers have seen clearly who their friend is and who their enemy. The mass of more politically conscious workers has turned sharply away from the party of appeasers and followed the party of the revolutionary proletariat, for the majority see in it the defender of the interests of the urban and rural poor and of the entire working people. Particularly apparent was the fall of the parties of the S.R.-Menshevik bloc, when in one issue of Izvestiia their leaders compared the Soviets to barracks and Kerensky's Preparliament to a new building and advised workers to move into this new housing, cleverly constructed by the leaders of the parties of appeasement and National enslavement, and to leave the Soviets, like temporary barracks, to the whim of fate. The workers did not fall into this trap, and at the new elections for the Executive Committee of the Sov. of Work. Dep. neither Mensheviks nor S.R.'s got a single seat,

Actually, the new Executive Committee, formed at the Second Congress of Soviets on 26 October, consisted of sixty-two Bolsheviks, twenty-nine Left S.R.'s, six Menshevik-Internationalists, and four representatives of smaller leftist parties. Though other parties were among the deputies to the congress, most Mensheviks and S.R.'s had walked out in protest against the October seizure of power.

and after this no one would dare reproach the Obukhov workers for lagging behind or being unorganized or inconsistent—all the resolutions that came out during this period at the general factory meetings demanded all power to the Soviets. When on 25 October the final decisive struggle began between labor and capital, when the overthrown idol of the Mensheviks and S.R.'s ran away,

On 25 October, before the Winter Palace was stormed and the cabinet arrested, Kerensky had fled, allegedly in disguise, in a car seized from the U.S. Embassy and flying the American flag, in order to find and rally loyal troops.

the Obukhov workers were the first to come out with weapons in hand and take up battle positions and occupy the approaches to Petrograd and were prepared to stand on guard for the revolution to their last drop of blood and to fight the traitors and betrayers of the workers, soldiers, and peasants.

Those same parties that laid claim t primacy during the eight long months before the October revolution were anything but passive during the days of the great battle for power. No, they continued their vile provocational work and made every effort to incite one section of the workers against the other, broke up factorywide meetings, and issued absurd resolutions from the minority, thereby slowing the course and development of the revolution and trying to steer it in a completely different direction.

In this trying and crucial time, though, the masses did not follow them, and they will not follow enemies of the people; the workers no longer have confidence in them; they will be alone; we are not going their way.
