The immortal feat of Aleksandr Matrosov, who blocked with his chest the embrasure of a wood-and-earthen German weapons emplacement and forced a German machine gun to fall silent, was recorded by a special order of the People's Commissar for Defense, Comrade Stalin, on 8 September 1943.

By his death, Aleksandr Matrosov paved the way to victory for his advancing unit. With his resolution to sacrifice his life, he won the right to immortality.

Private of the Guards Aleksandr Matveevich Matrosov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 19 June 1943.

By order of the People's Commissar of Defense, Comrade Stalin, he has been entered in perpetuity in the rolls of Company 1 of the 264th Guards' Rifle Regiment, which was awarded the name of Aleksandr Matrosov.

By the declaration of the Bureau of the Bashkir Regional Committee of the All-Russian Communist Party (Bolshevik) and the Soviet of People's Commissars of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Boys Secondary School No. 64 in the city of Ufa and the Ufa Culture and Recreation Park are awarded the name of Aleksandr Matrosov. Yanalif Street in Ufa is renamed Aleksandr Matrosov Street. The children's movie theater now under construction in Ufa will also carry the hero's name.

The Administration for the Arts of the Bashkir ASSR is charged with enlisting the services of a sculptor to design a bust of Aleksandr Matrosov, and the Writers' Union with publishing for mass distribution a brochure about Matrosov in Russian and Bashkir.

Songs are being sung in Matrosov's memory calling on each citizen of the USSR to perform feats for the honor and independence of our Motherland.

The unprecedented patriotic enthusiasm of the entire Soviet people from the very first days of the Fatherland War also seized Matrosov, who was in those days in the Ufa labor colony. There he frequently held conversations with his comrades, the main theme of which was the Soviet Union's Great Fatherland War against the Fascist invaders.

He firmly developed in himself one desire—the desire to go into battle for the Motherland. He realized this desire in 1942.

In the Red Army, Matrosov joined the Komsomol and was a model warrior. He gave his life for the Motherland like a hero. Now, every day at the roll-call of Company 1 of the 254th Guards' Rifle Regiment the first to be called from the muster-roll is:

—He perished by a valiant death in battle with the German invaders,— answer the companies of the right flank.

The leadership of colonies should ensure in their educational work that Matrosov's immortal feat shall be known to every ward.

In every colony, implement the following measures:

The premises where such meetings are held should be decorated with slogans on the themes of the Great War for the Fatherland [and] with portraits of the leaders.

In the speech, first illuminate the victories of the Red Army in the struggle for the independence and honor of our Motherland.

When describing Matrosov's feat, emphasize especially his high personal qualities: his sense of duty, courage, resolution, and selflessness. These qualities enabled him to find the right solution in the heat of battle against the hated enemy.

And, in carrying out his duty, Comrade Matrosov gave his life without a second thought.

2. In the Club or the Red Corner of the colony, organize a corner in which materials are gathered about heroes of the Great Fatherland War: portraits, slogans, newspaper and journal clippings, and an exhibit of books about the Great Fatherland War of the Soviet People against the German invaders.

Create a wall newspaper from materials about Matrosov.

3. Conduct regular discussions with the wards, read newspaper articles and essays about the feats performed in battle by Red Army soldiers and commanders at the fronts and about the feats of labor performed by workers and collective farm workers in the rear.

These feats performed by Soviet people in battle and in labor must serve as an example, to raise our young people in the spirit of Soviet patriotism.
